The parts of interphase

WebbThe cell cycle is an orderly sequence of events. Cells on the path to cell division proceed through a series of precisely timed and carefully regulated stages. In eukaryotes, the cell cycle consists of a long preparatory period, called interphase. Interphase is divided into G 1, S, and G 2 phases. WebbInterphase is the longest part of the cell cycle. The first part of Interphase involves cell growth and is called the Gap 1 Phase or the G 1-Phase. The G1-Phase is followed by the Synthesis Phase, or S-Phase. During this part of Interphase, the chromosomes located in the nucleus are copied or replicated as the cell prepares to divide.
